África aposta em Cloroquina para combater COVID-19
Ainda não se chegou a nenhuma conclusão sobre a cura definitiva da COVID-19 em pessoas infectadas. Entretanto, alguns testes feitos na China e França, mas que ainda carecem de aprovação final, sugerem que a cloroquina, um medicamento contra malária, consegue reduzir níveis do vírus em pessoas infectadas.
A 24 de Março, o presidente norte-americano Donald Trump chegou a considerar a cloroquina como “um presente de Deus”, tendo sido alvo de severas críticas.
Mas mesmo sem aprovação final da OMS, já são muitos países africanos que têm permitido o uso da cloroquina como medicação contra COVID-19 em pessoas infectadas, noticiou News 24.
Por exemplo, a vizinha África do Sul, Burkina Faso e Camarões já autorizaram os hospitais a tratar os infectados na base destes comprimidos.
Pessoas infectadas no Senegal tem-lhes prescrito hidroxicloroquina, um derivado da cloroquina. O presidente da República Democrática do Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, ordenou urgentemente a produção da cloroquina em grande quantidade. O certo é que o preço de cloroquina em vários países africanos está cada vez mais elevado, e o medicamento tem sido vendido no mercado negro, o que aumenta os riscos da sua falsificação.
França já baniu a exportação de cloroquina e Marrocos requisitou grandes stocks desse medicamento.
Algumas organizações de saúde alertam sobre os efeitos colaterais do consumo de cloroquina, que tem sido comprada nas farmácias sem nenhuma prescrição médica.
